WAUKESHA, Wis. – Oct. 4, 2010 – Safway Services has been named one of America’s Safest Companies in 2010, according to an extensive selection process administered by "EHS Today" magazine.
America’s Safest Companies, founded in 2002, is a corporate award honoring the safest companies in the United States. Safway is one of only 12 companies honored with the award in 2010.
"Receiving the 'EHS Today' award for one of America’s Safest Companies is a significant milestone for Safway Services," said Director of Safety Alan Shamblin. "This recognition signifies that our management and employees place value in providing a safe and healthful place to work.
"Our safety management system continues to evolve and improve as we further establish Safway Services as a leader in the scaffolding and temporary access provider industry. Our continued safety excellence is made possible by the daily engagement of our employees, coupled with support from their supervisors and branch managers. We empower our employees to stop work if they ever believe the risks are unacceptable."
To be considered one of America’s Safest Companies, EHS Today seeks organizations that demonstrate: support from management and employee involvement; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates lower than the average for their industries; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; good communication about the value of safety; and a way to substantiate the benefits of the safety process.
"We invest in our employees and are persistent to ensure they have the appropriate training, tools, and other personal protective equipment while adhering to our safe work practices while performing their work," Shamblin said. "Project- and job-specific safety planning plays a vital role to help ensure not only the safety of our employees, but also the safety of our customers and clients. We continue to believe that Safway is a premier company to work for and are very pleased to be recognized as one of America’s Safest Companies."
Since 2002, a total of 120 companies have demonstrated their commitment to employee safety and health, environment management, and risk control and have been honored as America’s Safest.
An awards celebration will take place on Oct. 4 in San Diego, Calif., to honor Safway and other award recipients.
